July 28, 2023
Hey everyone! I'm not sure how your July has gone so far, however, my first two weeks have been absolutely WILD!
The week of the 4th, I realized that bread and wheat items were making me sick. I've suspected for a while that I may have to totally cut out gluten, because I realized I lose more weight when I don't eat it, and I feel better. However, I was still a bit shocked it actually happened. I'm suspecting leaky gut may be something worth looking into, and I can maybe heal my body from the inflammation of food intolerances. In the meantime however, I'm going to be focussing on moving forward without wheat in my diet.
More and more young adults seem to be developing issues with gluten and dairy. I believe that it is the consumption of heavily processed foods with risky additives that's causing our bodies to reject food groups and get an inflammatory response.
You can also blame it on the changes to wheat flour itself. Before the early 1900s, bread was much more crumbly. Now, you can go and buy a loaf of sliced bread, take a slice, and squeeze and roll it into a ball. That's not normal. That is because of the high gluten content that is in bread now. Gluten is a binder. It makes our bread less crumbly and our pasta more forgiving. But, now with what people estimate may be as much as FIVE TIMES the amount of gluten in wheat than there used to be, it's no wonder that gluten is bothering more people than ever before.
So is going gluten free really a new fad or trend? Actually, no.
There is a lifestyle called Paleo, which operates on the belief that our bodies do best when you follow a life similar to that of our caveman ancestors. They weren't farmers. They didn't bake bread or own dairy cows. They hunted and gathered what they could, were active, and out in natural sunshine. They literally had to fight to eat, just so they could live. In today's modern world, many people live to eat, are sedentary, and vitamin D deficient.
Definitely makes you think!
Fast forward now to the following week...
I was very sick with infected lymph nodes. I was off that entire week. In between sleeping and resting, it gave me a lot of couch time. I ended up researching, initially on TikTok, about the benefits of herbs.
The idea to research herbs initially came from the Physician Assistant at my first appointment. She told me to put a few whole cloves in my tea and it would numb my sore throat. I thought that was a very interesting concept, so I tried it.
I brewed a home tea in my vintage Mayer China tea pot of a teaspoon of cloves, 8 oz of water, a dash of cinnamon and a dash of ginger. I let it steep almost 10 minutes. It smelled like Christmas, and tasted just as good! I also added a slice of lemon and honey for some additional healing properties. And believe it or not, after about 10 to 15 minutes of drinking the tea, my throat actually felt numb! It was the most wonderful relief!
I also had lost my voice at this point. Throughout my research I learned that mullein, a common roadside "weed" is great for the respiratory system and laryngitis. Well, guess what? After 20 minutes of drinking mullein tea, I coughed up some congestion, and I was able to talk! It still took a few days for my voice to fully return, but I could at least talk again!
So, I began my search for other beneficial herbs. I eventually ended up learning about natural antibiotics and even some people who cured their own cancer! God truly gave us everything we could need in this world to thrive.
So, I'm going to continue my research on herbs and their uses. I'm not sure where I want to go with this, or how far, but I will say I'm currently brewing my own echinacea tincture and honey garlic antibiotic in jars!
So here I am in the modern world, returning to the old ways of less gluten and home remedies.
Until next time,
XOX, Margie
