Welcome back to the follow up from my last post!
Some of you might remember from my first blog post that I do not believe in resolutions. However, I do believe in trying to continue working on the best parts of yourself. That means continuing the great work I started last year in developing healthy habits and continuing to see the reflection on the scale and in my general health.
However, eating healthy can be so expensive, and our current economic situation makes this all the more challenging. Inflation has made grocery shopping almost painful, and I am realizing that my financial health is just as important as my physical health.
So my goal this year is to cut my food budget by looking for cheaper, simpler meals that will support my body.
I began turning to my credit cards when I ran out of the cash from my food budget during the month. But I am no longer allowing this to be an option for me. Financial health is important too, and I am not going to let a lack of funds or debt control my life anymore. So, the way I am going to tackle a portion of it, is to stop charging for groceries at the store.
I started watching a lot of budget meal prep videos on TikTok. I must admit that my favorite account is Dollar Tree Dinners. I love the way she makes shopping on a budget easy for you. However, very few of her recipes are anti-inflammatory, gluten, or dairy free. And this is the true challenge with cutting your grocery budget. So, every time I have been to Dollar Tree lately, I have walked around the food aisles with my Yuka app opened. There are a few options I will have, but I will have to turn to other food staples at other stores for better options for me. Luckily, rice, beans, and chicken thighs have remained affordable, so this is what I will primarily be building my cheaper meals around.
My goal this month however, is a "No Spend January." Basically, I plan on only buying essentials this month (ex: Health and Hygiene products). All meals I prepare, I will create using ingredients that I already have at home, with the exception of fresh produce like peppers or lettuce. So this means no shopping and buying random ingredients I hope to use, and no browsing the internet shopping for clothes and décor I do not need.
In a few days, I plan on "shopping" my pantry, and coming up with recipes using what I have on hand. I am so excited about this, and I am looking forward to sharing the first week of meal plans with you!
Til Next Time,
XOXO, Margie
